Many of you have noticed the new build on the corner of 3rd Street S.E. and Saskatchewan Avenue East. It was officially opened on June 30 when we invited community members to come and write what being Canadian means to them. Through a grant from Canadian Heritage and a group of amazing volunteers, we were able to create a place to not only celebrate what it means to be Canadian, but a place to showcase our local culture.
Convention Corner is an outdoor meeting and performance space for community members. If you are interested in hosting a event at Convention Corner, you are asked to call Jean-Marc Nadeau, City Manager at (204)239-8336 to book the space. There is no cost associated with using Convention Corner — we just ask that you use good manners and confirm the space’s availability prior to using it.
Its hours of operation for any type of performance are from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
In some instances, the space will be made available during the day for hosting barbecues, fundraising events, outdoor meetings, or other creative endeavours. Throw an idea at us- we love new ideas.
There is one rule at Convention Corner: it must be used for positive things. We are for creating a sense of place in what used to be an empty space in our downtown, now let’s fill it with people — people doing great things for their community.
